Michelle lost 63 pounds | Black Women Weight Loss Success

Michelle lost 63 pounds. This Medical Assistant decided to have vertical gastric sleeve surgery this year. She wanted to feel better, look better, and get healthy before having children.

Before: August 14th – two days before VSG surgery!!

After: 62 pounds later.

(By September, I’d lost 42 pounds and realized that I was practically swimming in my scrubs at work.)

When did you start your journey?

I started my journey around the middle of June 2020.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?

My motivation was to become healthier before having children. Also, I wanted to look and feel better about myself. The great thing about the gastric sleeve is that it’s permanent, so no quitting is allowed!

How did you change your eating habits after surgery? Did you have to follow a pre-op diet?

Since having weight loss surgery, I only eat tender meats, vegetables, and zero sugar drinks: high protein, low carb, and much smaller portions.

My pre-op diet was a 30-day low carb diet and two days of clear liquids before surgery day.

What is your workout routine?

I have worked out once using a free trial at Orange Theory Fitness. From there, I decided to sign up, and I start in December.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?

My starting weight was 312 pounds, and my current weight is 249 pounds.

What is your height?

I’m 5’7″.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to know my limitations when it comes to the amount I eat.

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?

Ladies, do what’s best for your health, by any means necessary. I’m blessed to have a supportive husband by my side who was there every step of the way. Anyone you think may have a negative opinion, don’t even share with them that you’re having weight loss surgery. Don’t share until after it’s done. That was the best decision I ever made!
