In 2018, John Cena trained hard in China to lose pounds, ahead of his return to WWE. At the time, he succeeded in losing 17 pounds of body weight. He had his training for a month in China after he was selected to star in Jackie Chan's latest action-thriller film at the time, 'Project X' replacing Sylvester Stallone.

John Cena did a lot of boxing and yoga during his training period in China and impressively dropped 17 pounds. He had taken a break from wrestling for four months. He decided to shed some pounds ahead of his fight at WWE Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia, where he fought Kevin Owens and Elias with Bobby Lashley.

John Cena's intense training at the Jackie Chan Training Center in Tianjin, China, contributed to a lot to his 17-pound weight loss, but he also followed a healthy diet plan to supplement his workouts. John Cena was born as John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. on April 23, 1977, in West Newbury, Massachusetts. His parents, Carol (née Lupien) and John Felix Anthony Cena Sr. raised him, his elder brother Stephen and three younger brothers named Dan, Matt, and Sean as a Catholic. John's maternal grandfather was baseball player Tony Lupien.

John Cena studied at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and then transferred to Cushing Academy, a private prep boarding school in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. After graduation, he attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he played for the college football team in NCAA Division III. He graduated from Springfield College in 1998 with a degree in exercise physiology and body movement.
